These guidelines explain the standards that apply when publishing or interacting with content on WPBay, including:
- Product and service listings;
- Seller profiles and storefronts;
- Product comments and pre-sale questions;
- Star ratings and written reviews;
- Seller responses to comments and reviews; and
- Related communications conducted through WPBay.
By publishing or interacting with this content, you agree to follow these guidelines together with the WPBay Terms and Conditions, Seller Agreement, Acceptable Use Policy, Privacy Policy and other applicable WPBay policies.
The WPBay Community Guidelines for Sellers also apply to seller conduct. Discussions on the WPBay Community Forum may be subject to additional forum rules.
General content standards
Content published on WPBay must be:
- Accurate and not misleading;
- Relevant to the area in which it is posted;
- Respectful and professionally expressed;
- Lawful and consistent with the rights of others;
- Free from malware, deceptive links and harmful code; and
- Suitable for a professional WordPress marketplace.
WPBay may remove, hide or restrict content that violates these standards. Depending on the circumstances, we may ask the user or seller to correct the content before taking further action.
We may act immediately where content creates a security, legal, fraud, privacy or safety risk.
Product and service listings
Listings should give prospective customers enough accurate information to understand what they are purchasing and any important limitations that apply.
Information that should be disclosed
Where relevant, a listing should clearly explain:
- The product’s principal features and intended purpose;
- Current WordPress, PHP, theme, plugin or platform compatibility;
- Required plugins, accounts, APIs or third-party services;
- Known limitations or important technical requirements;
- Whether external services require additional payment;
- What files, licenses and other assets are included;
- What is shown for demonstration purposes but is not included;
- The support and update services provided with the purchase;
- Renewal, subscription or recurring payment terms;
- Any personal information collected or transmitted by the product;
- The differences between available plans or license options; and
- For services, the scope, deliverables, turnaround time, revision limits and customer requirements.
Descriptions, screenshots, videos and live demonstrations must represent the product or service accurately. Mockups, concepts and planned features must be clearly identified as such and must not be presented as currently available functionality.
Changelogs and version information must reflect genuine releases. Sellers must not fabricate update histories or change version numbers solely to make a product appear more actively maintained.
Content prohibited in listings
Listings must not contain:
- False, inaccurate, fraudulent or materially misleading claims;
- Fabricated testimonials, sales figures, awards, customer counts or endorsements;
- Claims of guaranteed results that the seller cannot substantiate;
- Unqualified claims such as “completely secure,” “100% compatible” or “bug-free”;
- Statements suggesting that WPBay or another business officially endorses the product when that is not true;
- Copied descriptions, images, documentation or other intellectual property;
- Profane, threatening, hateful, discriminatory, defamatory or sexually explicit material;
- Personal or confidential information published without permission;
- Malware, phishing mechanisms, hidden tracking or deliberately obfuscated harmful code;
- Keyword, category or trademark stuffing intended to manipulate search results;
- Unrelated political, religious or social campaigning;
- Fake scarcity, misleading discounts or manipulated reference prices;
- Instructions encouraging customers to avoid WPBay’s payment, licensing or commission systems; or
- Duplicate or substantially identical listings created primarily to dominate search results.
A product may serve a political, charitable, religious or social organization. The listing may describe that legitimate use case factually, but it must not be used primarily for unrelated campaigning or attacks on other people or groups.
Sellers remain responsible for listing content produced using artificial intelligence or other automated tools. Automation does not excuse inaccurate claims, copied material, fabricated screenshots or insufficient disclosures.
External links in listings and profiles
Relevant external links may be used where they help customers evaluate or use the product. Examples include links to:
- A live demonstration;
- Product documentation;
- A support portal;
- A public changelog;
- A service-status page;
- A privacy policy; or
- Documentation for a required third-party integration.
External links must be safe, accurately described and directly relevant to the listing.
Links must not be used to:
- Redirect a WPBay customer to an external checkout for the listed product or service;
- Advertise that the same product can be purchased more cheaply outside WPBay;
- Conceal the destination through misleading redirects;
- Distribute malware or collect credentials deceptively;
- Display unrelated advertising or affiliate promotions; or
- Circumvent WPBay’s transaction, licensing, support or commission systems.
Additional rules are explained in the WPBay Product and Service Promotion Guidelines.
Seller profiles and storefronts
Seller profiles should accurately identify the seller or brand responsible for the products and services being offered.
Sellers must:
- Keep their public name, business information and trader status accurate;
- Use only profile images, logos and banners they own or are authorized to use;
- Describe their skills, experience and business relationships truthfully;
- Keep required EU trader information current; and
- Avoid presenting themselves as WPBay employees, representatives, certified partners or endorsed sellers unless WPBay has expressly granted that status.
Profiles must not include:
- Fake awards, badges, sales numbers or professional qualifications;
- Impersonation of another person, company or seller;
- Personal information about another person without permission;
- Calls to purchase WPBay-listed products through an external payment method;
- Multiple identities intended to manipulate reviews, sales or marketplace visibility; or
- Branding that is likely to mislead users about an association with WPBay.
A seller may link to their own website or portfolio, provided the link is not used to divert WPBay-originated transactions or mislead customers.
See the Use of the WPBay Brand and Trademarks policy for additional requirements.
Product comments and questions
Product comments are intended for relevant discussion about a listing. Prospective customers may use them to ask pre-sale questions about features, compatibility, licensing or intended use.
Comments may also be used to provide relevant feedback or request clarification from the seller.
Use support channels for individual technical issues
Customers who need help with a purchase should normally create a support request through the applicable order or My Downloads area.
Public comments should not be used to share:
- Purchase codes or license keys;
- Passwords, API keys or access tokens;
- WordPress administrator credentials;
- Private website or server access details;
- Order or payment information;
- Private email addresses or telephone numbers; or
- Logs containing personal, authentication or security information.
If a comment contains sensitive information, WPBay may hide or remove it to protect the user.
Comments that are not permitted
We may remove comments that:
- Are unrelated to the product or service;
- Are used primarily to complain about WPBay rather than discuss the listing;
- Contain abuse, harassment, threats, hate speech or discriminatory content;
- Publish another person’s private or confidential information;
- Contain spam, repetitive messages, advertising or unrelated affiliate links;
- Promote a competing product without a legitimate comparative context;
- Demand support that the listing clearly states is not included;
- Attempt to force a refund, review change or other action through threats;
- Contain knowingly false allegations;
- Disclose an unresolved security vulnerability publicly; or
- Are used instead of the appropriate legal, refund, support or infringement-reporting process.
Customers may still report that an unsupported product is broken, misleading or inconsistent with its description. The fact that a listing does not include technical support does not prevent customers from reporting a genuine listing problem.
Potential security vulnerabilities should be reported privately to the seller and WPBay so that they can be investigated without unnecessarily exposing customers.
Ratings and written reviews
Ratings and reviews allow eligible customers to describe their firsthand experience with a product or service purchased through WPBay.
Reviews should be:
- Based on genuine use or a genuine transaction;
- Relevant to the purchased product, service or support actually provided;
- Honest, respectful and constructive; and
- Specific enough to help other customers understand the experience.
A critical or negative review does not violate these guidelines merely because the seller disagrees with it or because it affects the product’s average rating.
Reviews must not contain:
- Fake, purchased, exchanged or compensated feedback;
- Reviews submitted by the seller, their employees or someone acting on their behalf;
- Coordinated review manipulation or review bombing;
- Reviews posted primarily to promote another product;
- Threats to leave or maintain a low rating unless a refund, free service or other benefit is provided;
- Personal, confidential or security-sensitive information;
- Support requests that should be submitted through the support system;
- Abuse, harassment, hate speech or discriminatory content; or
- Complaints solely about unrelated WPBay account, payment or platform issues.
Customers may criticize missing functionality when a listing created a reasonable expectation that the functionality was included. However, a review should not penalize a seller solely for refusing to provide a feature, customization or service that was clearly identified as outside the purchase.
Platform-level payment, account and policy concerns should be reported to WPBay Support rather than attributed to an individual product.
Asking customers for reviews
Sellers may make a neutral request for customers to leave an honest review.
Sellers must not:
- Ask specifically for a five-star or other predetermined rating;
- Offer discounts, refunds, free products, license extensions or priority support in exchange for a review;
- Condition support or updates on leaving, changing or removing a review;
- Pressure or harass a customer about their rating;
- Ask customers to remove a legitimate negative review instead of addressing the underlying issue;
- Coordinate reviews through employees, friends, family members or associated accounts; or
- Selectively reward only customers who leave positive feedback.
Review requests should use neutral language such as:
If you have used this product, you are welcome to leave an honest review describing your experience.
Additional information about review moderation is available in the WPBay Rating and Review Removal Policy.
Seller responses
Sellers may respond to product comments and reviews to:
- Answer a question;
- Correct a factual misunderstanding;
- Explain how a feature works;
- Confirm that an issue has been fixed;
- Direct a customer to the appropriate support channel; or
- Provide other relevant context.
Responses must remain professional, even when the original comment or review is strongly critical.
A seller response must not:
- Insult, ridicule or threaten the customer;
- Publish information obtained through an order or support request;
- Reveal the customer’s identity, website or purchase details without permission;
- Retaliate against the customer by withdrawing services they are entitled to receive;
- Pressure the customer to change their rating; or
- Turn the response into unrelated advertising.
Reporting content
A listing can be reported using the Report this product option on its product page.
To report a profile, comment or review, use the available reporting feature or contact WPBay Support at support@wpbay.com. Include:
- The URL of the affected page;
- The username or listing involved;
- A description of the problem;
- The specific part of these guidelines you believe was violated; and
- Relevant screenshots or other evidence.
Copyright and other intellectual-property claims should be submitted through the WPBay DMCA and Intellectual Property Notice Process. Other allegedly illegal content can be reported under the Reporting Illegal Content on WPBay procedure.
Knowingly false, abusive or repetitive reports may result in restrictions on the reporter’s ability to submit further reports.
Moderation and enforcement
Depending on the nature, severity and history of a violation, WPBay may:
- Ask for content to be corrected;
- Edit formatting or remove sensitive information;
- Hide or remove a listing, comment, response or review;
- Lock or restrict further comments;
- Restrict a user’s ability to submit reviews;
- Reject, suspend or remove a listing;
- Restrict marketplace, messaging or support features;
- Temporarily suspend an account; or
- Permanently terminate an account in serious or repeated cases.
Where appropriate, WPBay will give the affected user or seller an opportunity to correct the issue. Immediate action may be taken where necessary to address fraud, malware, unlawful content, intellectual-property infringement, privacy violations, threats or another significant risk.
WPBay may preserve records of removed content where reasonably necessary for fraud prevention, security investigations, dispute resolution, legal compliance or enforcement of its agreements.
Eligible EU sellers may use the complaint-handling procedure described in the Additional Terms for EU Sellers if they believe a moderation decision affecting their business use of WPBay was made incorrectly.
