A booking calendar can look perfectly convincing and still sell an appointment your business cannot fulfill.
Two therapists may be available at 2 p.m., but there is only one treatment room. A bicycle may be free on Friday morning but already rented for the weekend. A customer may reach checkout, leave without paying and continue holding the last available place.
Those situations tell you more about a booking plugin than the appearance of its date picker.
For an existing WooCommerce shop, WooCommerce Bookings and PluginHive are sensible starting points for general reservations and rentals. BookingWP Appointments, Amelia and Bookly deserve closer attention for staff-led appointment businesses. Tyche and YITH offer other approaches to dates, product types and availability. For customers choosing a particular event seat, Live Event Seating on WPBay serves a more specific need.
This guide compares current product information, documentation and license terms. It does not claim that all eight have been tested against the same store. WPBay sells Live Event Seating; the other options are included because they address different booking requirements.
Choose what the customer is reserving
An appointment reserves someone’s time. An equipment rental reserves an item for a period. A hotel stay reserves accommodation for a number of nights. A seated event reserves a particular place at a particular performance.
The information collected can look similar, but the calculation underneath changes.
For an appointment, you need to consider service duration, staff working hours, preparation time and any shared room or equipment. A rental needs availability across the entire requested period, plus a clear rule for collection and return. An overnight stay needs the correct number of nights and check-in and check-out times.
A ticket buyer may want seat B12 beside the rest of their group. A generic field for the number of attendees does not provide that experience.
Define the thing you cannot sell twice. That is the resource the system must protect. Then describe a normal purchase and an awkward one before comparing plugins.
WooCommerce booking plugins compared
Prices were checked on October 27, 2026. Dollar amounts are USD; YITH’s published price is in euros. Some sites localize prices or apply temporary promotions. Check the selected license, tax and renewal amount before paying.
| Plugin | Best reason to investigate it | WooCommerce relationship | Current price reference |
|---|---|---|---|
| WooCommerce Bookings | General appointments, reservations and rentals within an existing store | Booking extension built by Woo | $249 for a one-year plan |
| PluginHive Bookings and Appointments | Flexible durations, rentals and shared booking assets | WooCommerce booking extension | $149/year for one site; additional features may require add-ons |
| BookingWP Appointments | Staff schedules and appointment management | Appointment extension built on WooCommerce | $99/year Standard license, one activation, in the reviewed USD offer |
| Tyche Booking & Appointment | Booking dates attached to different WooCommerce product types | Adds booking functionality to products | Current Starter offer $139.30 for the first year, then $199/year |
| YITH Booking and Appointment | Stays, rentals, services and configurable booking costs | Uses a dedicated bookable product type | €249.99 with one year of updates and support |
| Amelia | Service businesses wanting a dedicated scheduling interface | Uses WooCommerce checkout through an integration | Standard or higher required; compare current annual and lifetime quotes |
| Bookly | Appointment scheduling with a choice of paid feature bundles | Sends bookings into WooCommerce cart and checkout | Pro currently advertised at $39/year or $99 one-time during its sale |
| Live Event Seating | Visual selection of assigned seats for events | Uses WooCommerce ticket products and orders | $96.99/year for the listed five-site license |
Amelia and Bookly can use WooCommerce for the payment stage while retaining their own scheduling systems. For those integrations, understand how the appointment and the WooCommerce order stay in agreement. A successful charge and a correctly confirmed appointment are both necessary.
WooCommerce Bookings: a starting point for an existing store
WooCommerce Bookings is the official extension from Woo, priced at $249 for a one-year plan. It supports time-based products, participant settings, availability and resources within the WooCommerce purchasing process.
A resource can represent an asset such as a member of staff, a room or equipment. That gives you a useful way to investigate services that depend on shared availability.
For overnight stays, Woo provides the free Accommodation Bookings add-on. The add-on still requires the paid Bookings extension. Deposits and additional availability displays are other extensions to budget for where required.
This is a candidate for businesses selling several kinds of time-based product. It still requires careful setup. A resource called “Studio” only helps if the services using that studio are connected to the correct availability.
For a staff-heavy operation, also inspect what employees can do during an ordinary working day. Representing a person as a bookable resource is one requirement; letting that person manage their schedule comfortably is another.
PluginHive: for rentals, flexible durations and shared assets
Bookings and Appointments for WooCommerce by PluginHive covers bookings across different durations, with participant pricing, availability rules and global assets shared between products.
The current one-site price is $149 annually. Older articles and videos may still show $99; PluginHive’s licensing FAQ explains the change and the removal of its former five-site option.
Shared assets are worth investigating when several offers depend on the same underlying equipment or staff. A kayak used for a guided trip should not simultaneously remain available as a separate rental merely because the products have different names.
Budget for the exact workflow. PluginHive sells separate extensions for capabilities such as recurring bookings, deposits and Zoom integration.
The Recurring Bookings add-on currently costs $69 per year. Its documentation describes scheduling repeated bookings with one payment, rather than providing subscription payments. At listed annual prices, the base plugin and that add-on total $218 before promotions or tax.
That is a useful distinction for a coach selling a series of sessions. Reserving six dates and collecting one payment is a different arrangement from collecting a payment each month. Decide which arrangement the customer is buying before selecting the extensions.
BookingWP Appointments: for businesses organized around staff
Appointments for WooCommerce by BookingWP focuses on appointment scheduling. Its documented features include staff calendars, employee availability, buffers and two-way Google Calendar synchronization.
The reviewed USD offer lists the Standard license at $99 for one activation with a year of updates and support. The site can localize its currency, so confirm the quote displayed for your location.
This is a relevant candidate for a consultant, salon or other business where appointments belong to particular people. Look at the staff view as carefully as the customer form. The person answering the phone needs to find and change an appointment without navigating a process designed for a website administrator.
There is a current-release detail worth knowing. The October 23, 2026 changelog introduces an availability hub, while marking newer location and shared room/resource features as experimental and disabled by default.
If shared treatment rooms are essential to your business, that experimental status matters. Ask about the supported configuration for your use case before relying on those newer features in production.
For straightforward staff appointments, compare the routine tasks: changing working hours, entering leave, finding a customer and moving a session. Those interactions will matter long after the initial installation.
Tyche Booking & Appointment: for bookings attached to existing product structures
Tyche’s Booking & Appointment Plugin for WooCommerce takes an approach that is particularly worth examining when your catalog already uses different product types.
The developer documents bookings on default WooCommerce product types, including variations, alongside integrations for other product types. It also describes time-based and date-based bookings, capacity limits, special prices and approval before payment.
The Starter plan currently advertises $139.30 for the first year for one store, renewing at $199 per year. Compare that renewal cost with the introductory offer.
A rental shop may already distinguish products by a meaningful variation, such as an equipment size. Preserving that catalog structure could reduce migration work, provided the booking capacities behave as required.
Work through the inventory arrangement before moving a catalog. If five variations share one underlying resource, five independently bookable quantities may overstate what you can supply. Conversely, separate physical items may need independent availability.
Tyche also advertises migration from WooCommerce Bookings. Treat migration as a project with a rehearsal: retain a backup, compare future reservations and verify their order links. The availability you must preserve includes existing commitments, not only the dates visible on a new product page.
YITH Booking and Appointment: for stays and configurable rental offers
YITH Booking and Appointment for WooCommerce covers accommodation, rentals and services, with options for people, additional services and pricing rules. Its current published price is €249.99 with one year of updates and support.
Its product model deserves attention. YITH uses a dedicated bookable product type, and its FAQ states that a product cannot also be a standard WooCommerce variable product. Resources, people and services provide other ways to model choices.
That may suit a property with separate bookable accommodation and optional extras. It may require a different catalog design if your existing operation depends heavily on variations.
Calendar synchronization also needs a precise reading. YITH’s booking sync documentation distinguishes the one-way Google Calendar connection from product-level iCal synchronization. The latter can involve delays.
An entry appearing in Google Calendar does not, by itself, mean a personal calendar event will block a reservation on your site. Likewise, importing external availability is different from receiving an immediate transaction from another booking channel.
For a property sold through several platforms, establish how quickly each side receives changes and what happens during the gap. That operating detail matters more than the presence of a calendar-sync badge.
Amelia: for a dedicated service-booking interface
Amelia is a dedicated booking system that can use WooCommerce for payments. Its WooCommerce documentation confirms that the integration is available in Standard, Pro and Elite.
Do not use a Starter-plan price to budget for this particular integration. Compare the current quote for a qualifying annual or lifetime license, then check any other feature requirements against that plan.
Customers select their appointment in Amelia and proceed to WooCommerce cart or checkout. Order statuses can be mapped to booking and payment statuses in Amelia.
This is worth exploring when the service-selection experience and the staff scheduling interface are central to the business, while WooCommerce provides the required payment gateways and commerce tools.
The integration creates a second status relationship to understand. A gateway might leave an order on hold, mark it as processing or update it later after confirmation. Amelia needs the appropriate response to that sequence.
Use a test payment through the gateway you intend to use and inspect the order history alongside the appointment. Staff should have one clear answer to “is this booking confirmed?” rather than needing to reconcile conflicting screens while a customer waits.
Bookly: for appointment workflows with different feature bundles
Bookly is another scheduling system with a WooCommerce connection. The current Pro sale advertises $39 per year, against a $99 regular annual price, or $99 one-time against a $129 regular one-time price.
Its current plan comparison includes WooCommerce compatibility in Pro and higher. Other features can require a higher bundle or separately purchased add-ons, so price the required combination. SMS delivery through Bookly Cloud has usage charges.
The WooCommerce integration guide explains how a booking is represented in the WooCommerce cart. Enabling that route replaces Bookly’s ordinary payment step with WooCommerce checkout.
That matters if you are comparing payment add-ons. A payment method listed for Bookly’s own flow is not automatically the method you need when WooCommerce handles checkout.
A good evaluation starts with one complete service: select the staff member, choose the appointment, enter the customer details and pay. Then repeat the process with the additional feature you actually require, such as a group booking or service extra.
A low entry price is useful when the entry plan covers the job. It becomes less informative once the business requires several paid extensions.
Live Event Seating: a specialist option for assigned seats
Live Event Seating for WooCommerce on WPBay is included for a specific kind of reservation: choosing a seat on a visual venue layout.
The listing describes an SVG seating map, WooCommerce ticket products, temporary cart holds and QR-based check-in. The listed license costs $96.99 per year for five sites.
For a dinner, performance or conference with assigned places, the seat map is part of the purchase. Customers may need to sit together, choose a section or select a table. An appointment calendar does not express those choices.
The ticket workflow needs examination too. The listing describes a QR code per order. Test what happens when a group arrives separately, since that differs from issuing an individual code to every attendee.
Also confirm compatibility with your WooCommerce branch: the current listing marks WooCommerce 10.x as tested. A test event should cover selecting the last seat, abandoning checkout, completing payment and checking in.
This is a specialist alternative within the booking category. For a clinic or equipment-rental business, the appointment and rental tools above are more relevant starting points.
Make availability reflect the business
Consider a studio with two instructors and one room. The room holds eight people.
A private lesson may reserve the whole room for one customer. A class may accept eight people in that room. Two private lessons cannot run simultaneously simply because different instructors are free.
Describe those rules in business terms before building the products. Ask how the plugin represents the room, how services share it and whether a booking consumes the entire resource or one place.
For rentals, describe the actual item being reserved. Ten bikes are ten available units only if any one of them can fulfill the selected booking. Different sizes, locations or specifications can change that assumption.
Preparation and turnaround time belong in availability as well. A one-hour service followed by fifteen minutes of cleanup occupies more than an hour of your day. A rental that ends at noon may need an inspection before it can leave again.
The important result is the next valid start time. Shortening the displayed appointment or adding an explanation in the product description does not enforce a required buffer.
Find out when a slot becomes unavailable
An appointment should usually be protected while a customer completes payment. It should also become available again when the purchase is abandoned under the rules you choose.
WooCommerce’s in-cart bookings documentation describes temporary reservations and a default expiry scheduled for sixty minutes after creation. Cleanup depends on scheduled tasks, so an expiry time is not a promise of immediate release at that exact second.
For any booking system, establish the equivalent behavior. A customer who closes the browser should not block the last appointment indefinitely. A slow but legitimate payment should not cause the system to sell a slot that is being confirmed.
Use two separate customer sessions to test the last available place. Once one session reserves it, the other should receive the outcome your business intends. Repeat after the first customer abandons payment and after a failed payment.
That is useful evidence about your setup. A claim of double-booking prevention on a sales page is not a substitute for testing the resource configuration you created.
Keep payment, booking and cancellation separate in your thinking
A WooCommerce order records the commercial transaction. The booking system records the scheduled commitment.
Refunding an order, cancelling an appointment and returning availability are related actions, but their relationship depends on the selected plugin and configuration. Decide what should happen before staff need to do it for a real customer.
For example, a non-refundable deposit may be retained when a customer cancels, while the appointment is released for someone else. A rescheduled booking may keep the original payment and move only the reserved time.
Ask whether staff perform those changes in the order, the booking screen or both. Check the resulting customer email as well as the admin calendar.
Approval workflows need the same clarity. If you review requests before collecting payment, define how long approval holds the appointment and when an unpaid approved request expires. “Approved” and “paid” should have meanings the team understands.
Calendar sync is an operating dependency
Two-way synchronization is useful for staff who manage time outside WordPress, but the details determine what it can protect.
An exported event lets someone see a booking. An imported busy period may block availability. A subscribed iCal feed can refresh on a schedule controlled partly by the receiving service.
Ask which calendars connect, whose appointments are included and whether an external change updates the reservation or only blocks time. Then measure how long a change takes to appear.
For a single consultant, a short delay may be manageable. A last remaining apartment sold through several channels presents a different problem. Decide whether the plugin’s integration meets that operating model or whether a separate channel-management arrangement is required.
For online appointments, check time zones in the form, confirmation email and calendar invitation. Use a future booking across a daylight-saving transition, especially if staff and customers live in different regions. Every screen should describe the same actual appointment.
Compare the cost of the complete setup
Confirm the current plugin version against your WooCommerce version, your classic or block-based checkout, and High-Performance Order Storage. These are separate compatibility questions. Include any express payment route in the trial: a booking that works through the ordinary cart has not yet demonstrated that every shortcut preserves the selected time and resource.
The base license may cover the calendar but leave out an important part of the business process.
Deposits, recurring bookings, customer or staff portals, meeting links and SMS may have separate costs or plan requirements. Payment processing and message delivery charges can also sit outside the plugin license.
Build the comparison around one real service and the functions required to sell and deliver it. A higher-priced base plugin may cost less overall if it includes what your business needs. A smaller plugin may be sufficient for a simple operation.
Recurring bookings need particular care. Reserving a repeating series, charging once for a package and collecting subscription payments are three different requirements. A feature called “recurring” does not settle all three.
Keep renewal terms alongside the initial amount. A first-year offer may be entirely reasonable, but it is still the first-year amount.
Questions worth resolving before choosing
What is the best WooCommerce booking plugin for appointments?
BookingWP Appointments, Amelia and Bookly are relevant candidates for a staff-led business. The useful comparison is the actual schedule: staff availability, service duration, buffers, customer changes and the required WooCommerce payment flow.
For a store mixing appointments with rentals and other reservations, include WooCommerce Bookings and PluginHive in the comparison.
Is there a free WooCommerce booking plugin?
Some WordPress schedulers have free editions, but that does not mean their WooCommerce integration is free. Check the entitlement for the payment route you require.
Woo’s Accommodation Bookings add-on is free, for example, while its required WooCommerce Bookings extension is paid.
Can WooCommerce handle hotel reservations?
It can be part of that setup. WooCommerce Bookings has its accommodation add-on, and YITH also documents accommodation workflows.
For a property sold on external platforms, evaluate synchronization and inventory sharing separately. A room calendar on your own website does not establish how every outside channel receives availability changes.
Can customers book repeated appointments?
Several systems offer recurrence directly or through additional features. Check how each date is reserved, what happens when one occurrence is unavailable and whether payment covers the series or renews.
For a monthly membership, also decide how cancellation of billing affects appointments that have already been scheduled.
Where I would start
For general reservations inside an established WooCommerce store, compare WooCommerce Bookings with PluginHive using one real bookable product.
For staff appointments, put the staff calendar and daily administrative work at the center of the comparison. BookingWP, Amelia and Bookly offer different approaches worth trying. Add Tyche when existing product types matter, and YITH when its accommodation model or integrations fit.
For assigned event seating, inspect the Live Event Seating workflow on WPBay, including the ticket and check-in process.
The purchase decision becomes much clearer once the plugin has to represent your actual staff, room, equipment or seats. Pay for the setup that can reserve those correctly and show your team what has been promised.
