No. It follows Envato’s published structure by subtracting the buyer fee from the list price first, then deducting the author fee and withholding tax from the resulting item price. Refunds, currency conversion and account-specific terms can still change the final payout.
What is the difference between Envato’s buyer fee and author fee?
The buyer fee is the fixed portion of the customer-facing list price retained by Envato. The remaining amount is the item price. Envato then deducts its 50% author fee from that item price, together with any applicable withholding tax.
Do I need to leave Envato to sell on WPBay?
No. WPBay can be used as an additional sales channel, subject to any agreements that apply to your existing listings.
What is included for WPBay sellers?
WPBay provides marketplace listings, licensing, updates, subscriptions, seller tools, customer management and product delivery infrastructure.
How do WPBay commission tiers work?
The standard rate starts at 30% and progressively decreases to 25%, 20%, 15% and 12% as lifetime WPBay sales reach the published thresholds.
How do US sales tax and EU VAT affect the comparison?
US sales tax and EU VAT are alternative checkout scenarios, not cumulative taxes. Envato adds applicable US sales tax, while WPBay currently does not. For an EU consumer, VAT is added to both checkout prices at the customer’s country rate. These buyer-paid taxes are presented separately from estimated author earnings.
