WPBay’s 2025 Roadmap and Vision
When I started WPBay, I wasn’t trying to build the next unicorn startup. I wasn’t chasing venture capital or exits. I was trying to solve a problem I lived through myself – being a WordPress developer trying to make an honest living, while navigating the increasingly painful experience of selling on platforms that didn’t feel built for us.
WPBay came out of that frustration. I wanted to build something better. A marketplace where plugin and theme developers actually have a voice. Where buyers can trust what they’re getting. Where fairness, transparency, and community actually mean something.
So where are we now in 2025?
We’re still early. But we’re here. We’ve launched. We’ve grown a bit. We’ve had hundreds of conversations with sellers, buyers, and developers. WPBay is no longer just a “one man project” – it’s a platform, a community, and a direction.
It’s time to share our roadmap for the year ahead.
What WPBay Stands For
Our vision for WPBay isn’t flashy. It’s grounded in a simple idea:
To build the most developer-first, transparent, and trusted marketplace for WordPress products.
That means:
- No gatekeeping or black-box algorithms
- No 40-60% commissions for simply existing
- No silence when you need help
It means we’re not trying to be like anyone else. We’re trying to build what we wish had existed years ago.
What We’re Focusing on in 2025
1. Making WPBay Easier to Use (For Everyone)
We’ve built a lot of functionality, fast. Now it’s time to slow down a bit and improve how everything works together – for both buyers and sellers.
We’re working on:
- One-click checkout URLs and direct plan links
- Clearer product pages, previews, and changelogs
- Public wishlist and compare tools
- Simple onboarding for buyers with no technical background
The goal is to make sure a solo dev or a small agency can land on WPBay, understand what they’re getting, and buy confidently.
2. Tools for Sellers That Don’t Get in the Way
We know sellers are tired of bloated dashboards and over-complicated rules. We’re keeping things lean, direct, and useful.
Here’s what’s coming:
- New seller dashboard widgets with better sales, download, and license tracking
- Creation of product plans (Free, Pro, Lifetime, etc.)
- Pay-once-and-upgrade-later options for licensing
- Do you have more ideas? Share them on Discord
3. Smarter Licensing and Upgrade Paths
Most marketplaces force you into one pricing model. We don’t.
On WPBay, you’ll be able to offer:
- Lifetime licenses
- Site-limited licenses (1 site, 5 sites, 100 sites, etc.)
- Monthly or annual subscriptions
- Plan switching via SDK prompts inside your plugin or theme
We’re also adding license analytics, so you can see what types of plans your buyers are choosing, and when they upgrade.
4. Improving the WPBay SDK
The SDK is how we bring WPBay into your plugin or theme – so it has to be rock solid.
Here’s what we’re working on:
- Lighter, faster SDK (under 250KB)
- Modular structure so you only load what you need
- Automatic updates that work even if your plugin is on wordpress.org
- Upgrade prompts inside your plugin for paid plans
- Developer contact forms, feedback prompts, and more
This isn’t a black box. You’ll have full control over what shows up in your user’s admin panel.
5. Community and Recognition
We don’t want WPBay to be just a marketplace. We want it to feel like the start of something bigger – a developer-first movement in the WordPress world.
Here’s what’s happening:
- Forums with seller-only spaces
- Invite-a-seller program with unlockable rewards
- Early access to new features for trusted developers
- Public badges for top contributors, trusted products, and verified sellers
- Monthly spotlights and income milestones
We’ll also be running regular hackathons, bounty-style requests, and community challenges to keep things interesting.
6. Fair Fees, Global Tools, and Compliance
We collect EU VAT on your behalf. We provide clean tax invoices. You get to focus on building and selling, not accounting and legal headaches.
This year we’re also:
- Improving sales reports and earnings breakdowns
- Making invoice ZIP downloads filterable by seller, customer, and date
- Exploring regional pricing tools to help you serve local markets
7. Constant Shipping, No Hype Cycles
We don’t sit on features for marketing launches. We ship fast, fix bugs, and move on. You’ll see improvements weekly, not just at the end of the quarter.
Here’s what’s already live in Q1 2025:
- Refund requests with screenshot + reason
- Better version handling during uploads
- Live purchase code validation
- Seller profile pages with tabs, badges, and contact forms
My Commitment to You
Remember: I didn’t build WPBay to compete with anyone. I built it because I didn’t want to keep selling in systems that treated indie devs like disposable assets.
I want WPBay to be the last marketplace you ever need. A place that evolves with you. A place where you’re not just a seller, but a partner.
If you’ve been part of WPBay already -> thank you. If you’re just discovering it now -> welcome.
Let’s keep building!
