Deposits
Take part now, the rest later
Setting a deposit
On the Booking tab choose Deposit: a percentage of the total (e.g. 25) or a fixed amount. The booking form and cart show what's paid now and the balance due later.
What happens next
- The customer pays the deposit at checkout. The booking becomes Deposit paid.
- A second order for the balance is created automatically and the customer is emailed WooCommerce's invoice with a Pay for this order link. It's also shown as Pay now in My Account > Bookings.
- When the balance is paid, the booking becomes Paid.
Both orders are linked from the booking screen. If the booking is cancelled, an unpaid balance order is cancelled too.
If you charge tax, the balance order is taxed the same way as the deposit: for the customer's address, the product's tax class and your "prices entered with tax" setting, and not at all for a tax-exempt customer. The deposit and the balance always add up to exactly what the booking would cost paid in full.
