18+ Checkout Confirmation
Required age and terms confirmation at checkout
Overview
YetiAware adds a required checkbox to checkout and to the pay for order page (used by Yeti Auctions winners and invoices sent by the shop). Customers can't place or pay for an order without ticking it. The default wording is:
I confirm that I am 18 years or older and have read and agree to the terms and conditions.
If they don't tick it, they see: "You must confirm you are 18+ and agree to the terms and conditions to place this order."
Customising It
Go to YetiAware > Settings > Checkout Confirmation:
- Checkbox Text - change the wording, e.g. a different age or extra terms
- Terms & Conditions / 18+ Page URL - on the classic checkout, a "View terms" link to this page is added after the text, opening in a new tab
The Blocks checkout shows checkbox text as plain text, so the "View terms" link can't appear inside the checkbox. To link your terms on the Blocks checkout, set your terms page in WooCommerce > Settings > Advanced > Terms and conditions - WooCommerce's own checkout terms notice will link to it.
Checkout Types
- Blocks checkout - the checkbox appears in the order's additional information section
- Classic checkout - the checkbox appears just above the Place Order button
- Pay for order page - the checkbox appears just above the Pay for order button
The confirmation is saved with the order, with the date and time, as a record that the customer agreed. For orders paid from the pay for order page it is recorded when they pay.
Age Verification
A checkbox is a customer's declaration, not proof of age. If your licence requires age verification, use a dedicated age verification service as well.
